Sustainable leadership: Networks and Swedish fika
“It’s in the informal networks where knowledge and innovation get shared, and the importance of that can not be overrated”, says Robin Teigland, professor at the Stockholm School of Economics, in her talk from the event “Sustainable leadership – the Swedish way”. And do not underestimate the role of the “Swedish fika”, a place for the informal networking to truly thrive.
Robin Teigland, professor in business administration at Stockholm School of Economics, is a researcher on the intersection of strategy, technology, innovation, and entrepreneurship. Her main focus is on how the internet, social media and other emerging technologies enable self-organizing communities to create value outside of a firm’s traditional boundaries.
In this short talk from the event “Sustainable leadership – the Swedish way” for SSE Executive Education, she centers on the role of our networks as drivers for knowledge and innovation, and the importance of the informal networks.
“Stockholm has a unique entrepreneurial eco system, much thanks to flat organisations where the lack of traditional hierarchies increases the possibility for information and knowledge sharing across traditional boundaries.”
Robin also salutes the Swedish “fika” tradition, meaning the Swedish customary morning or afternoon coffee break at work. A few minutes to switch off from work and engage in less formal conversation with your colleagues can make wonders for the inspiration and exchange of ideas in a group.
This is one of the talks from the event “Sustainable leadership – the Swedish way”, held by SSE Executive Education at Stockholm School of Economics the 18 of May 2017. The event gathered prominent representatives of the Swedish business arena as well as academia on the topic of Sustainable leadership.
