AP-fonden (AP4) is one of Sweden’s major public pension funds with managed assets of approximately SEK 334 billion. AP4, under the leadership of Mats Andersson, started to reduce investments in CO2-emitting businesses in 2012 and was thereby able to enhance the returns by 250 basis points and at the same time lower the carbon footprint in the entire equity portfolio by 30 percent.

“Mitigating climate risk is a way to enhance your return as a long-term investor.”

Mats has shown that investing in sustainability is no challenge to high revenue, it is, in fact essential for the chance of long-term profits. “Sweden is at the forefront of sustainability and companies are taking this with a commercial approach” concludes Mats. “Increase returns by lowering your carbon footprint!”
